CODY, NICHOLAS, CRAIG, ARI, AND CALI
Five children – five families – five crises – five miracles. Cody, Nicholas, Craig, Cali and Ari all live in north central Wisconsin and they all have a story to tell. These five young individuals have all been treated at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and were miracle children featured on the 1999 Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Broadcast.

To look at Cody Trickle from Wisconsin Rapids, you see a happy, healthy and active young man. But like wasn’t always so east for Cody. In 1987, Cody was born seven weeks early weighing five pounds, four ounces. He had respiratory distress as his lungs were underdeveloped. On his second day of life, his lungs collapsed and he had to have two chest tubes put in. Additionally, he had hydrocephalus (water on the brain). Baby Cody was scheduled to have a shunt placed in his brain, but a miracle occurred and the swelling was gone. Thanks to modern technology and special care.

Marshfield’s Nicholas Campbell has an infectious smile. At six months of age, Nicholas was diagnosed as having cerebral palsy (CP). Now, Nicholas is part of the CP Clinic at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and has made some incredible strides. He comes in several times a week for therapy. Donations to CMN have provided many pieces of equipment that Nicholas uses during his therapy sessions. Nicholas loves sports – and he doesn’t just watch them. Because of the CP Clinic, special therapies and lots of love from his family, Nicholas can play basketball and kickball.

Craig Kann was a very good football player at Stratford High School. Little did anyone know that this healthy young man was one tackle away from possible paralysis. But thanks to the Sports Medicine of Marshfield Team, a critical brain stem malformation called Arnold Chiari, was detected in Craig. Following surgery Craig’s football days on the field are over, but thanks to the quick reaction of the Sports Medicine Team and the skill of Marshfield’s neurosurgeons, Craig is still a team player.

Cali Busche is from Stratford. This precious little girl has faced more trials in her early years than most people do in a lifetime. Cali was born with a congenital heart condition and respiratory problems, which included bleeding in her lungs. Cali’s mom Lorrie, is a social worker at Marshfield Clinic and has used CMN funds to help other families facing medical crises with their child. CMN has helped Lorrie and her family with a specialized car seat and other equipment purchased with CMN donations.

Our fifth miracle story is about Ari Anglin of Mason in Bayfield County. This little girl was abandoned in the streets of India where she was found and cared for by Mother Theresa. Ari, who could not walk because of a crippling defect, has defied the odds. At age five, Ari was adopted by Harold and Patty Anglin from Wisconsin. When she learned to speak English, she asked her parents to find a doctor who could help fix her legs so she could walk. They found Dr. Jacobsen at Marshfield Clinic. But this hasn’t been an easy road for Ari. To date, she has gone through more than 37 hours of surgery at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and uncounted minutes of therapy. Today, because of Dr. Jacobsen’s determination and with CMN support, Ari is standing and, with the help of a walker, taking steps.
